FC CLACTON v HALSTEAD TOWN

Saturday 1st October - Kick Off 3.00pm Another away match for Halstead this week with a trip to the seaside to play FC Clacton. After battling the traffic through Colchester I arrived at there just after 2.00 and was pleased to find that Clacton have a big car park adjacent to the ground which certainly made parking easier. From the guys at the gate, the lady at the hot food van and the bar staff everyone at the club made us feel very welcome. After being at the wrong end a 2-3 heavy defeats there were more new faces in the Halstead line up and they started the match hoping halt the run of poor form, but despite some early pressure it didn’t take long for Clacton to take the lead. Rather than let their heads drop, Halstead dug in and played some good football and were more than a match for a well drilled Clacton side. Despite this, they couldn’t find an equaliser and went in at half time trailing 1-0. I was still getting my act together with my camera when Halstead equalised within a minute of the restart with a well struck shot from the edge of the box. This should have signalled a Halstead come back, but within a few minutes they found themselves trailing 2-1, this soon became 3-1 when Clacton were awarded a penalty, for a while it looked like they would run away with it. To their credit Halstead regained their shape and composure and were also awarded a penalty which was confidently put away. In the final minutes Halstead pressed for what would have been a well deserved equaliser, this did at times leave them exposed at the back and were lucky not to concede a 4th. It’s quite evident that it is taking Halstead a while to settle into playing at a higher level, but you can see that the club are working hard behind the scenes and are bringing in new players and I'm sure they soon start to make their mark. The fixture list Gods have somehow managed to make the return fixture at Halstead for next Saturday and with 2-3 players returning from injury and suspension Halstead will be looking to pick up a much needed win and 3 pts. Essex Senior League - Premier Division Austin Arena, Rush Green, Clacton FC Clacton 3 Halstead Town 2 Admission - £8 (£5 concessions) Programme - £1.50 Cheeseburger & Tea - £5.50 Att 103
